This new football will tell you when it’s deflated below 12.5 PSI

Football manufacturer Big Game USA has developed a new football that comes equipped with a pressure indicator to verify that the ball is, in fact, properly inflated.

According to the company’s website, the technology inside these footballs provides instant feedback on the PSI level.

“When a Vairifty™ equipped football has 12.5 PSI or more, a green Vairify™ check mark will appear on the surface of the football. If the football isn’t properly inflated, the Vairify™ check mark will not be shown.’’

The Deflategate scandal has raised public awareness of air pressure and legal PSI levels to an all-time high, and the Vairifty™ equipped footballs aim to be a preventative measure against future ball tampering scandals.

“We created this device so anyone involved with the game can ensure the footballs have not been tampered with,’’ said Chris Calandro, Big Game USA owner, in a statement on the company website. “It’s important for the fairness and integrity of the game to know that all game footballs have not been interfered with and remain properly inflated throughout the entire game.’’

Big Game USA supplies footballs to several college teams, but Calandro told ESPN he does not know if or when the new technology will be used for the balls on game day.
