Former Patriots cornerback Kyle Arrington to sign three-year deal with Ravens
Three days after being released by the Patriots, Kyle Arrington has a new home.
The former Patriots cornerback has reached a three-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens, the team announced on Wednesday, pending a physical. Arrington will be introduced at a 3 p.m. press conference in Baltimore.
Arrington was cut by the Patriots on Monday, the same day they signed tight end Fred Davis and offensive lineman Kevin Hughes. Arrington was due to count $4.625 million against the Patriots salary cap before his release.
An undrafted free agent out of Hofstra in 2008, Arrington was scooped up by the Patriots in 2009 after brief stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Arrington played in 87 games over six years with the Patriots, starting 56. He record nine interceptions with the Patriots – seven on which came in the 2011 season to tie Charles Woodson and Eric Weddle for the most in the NFL.
Arrington’s final year with the Patriots saw him play in 14 games and start just four. He started Super Bowl XLIX, where he was torched by Seattle Seahawks first-year receiver Chris Matthews, who had yet to catch a pass in the NFL prior to the game. Arrington was benched in favor of Malcolm Butler in the second half, who solidified his place in New England sports lore with his goal line interception in the final minute to seal the Patriots’ fourth Super Bowl win.
