Report: Tom Brady merchandise sales have soared since Deflategate ruling

Tom Brady may be suspended for the first four games of the 2015 season, but that hasn’t cut into his admiration among consumers. If anything, it’s increased his popularity.

After the Wells report, released last week, said the Patriots quarterback was “at least generally aware’’ of Patriots staffers deliberately taking air out of footballs, Brady’s jersey has become one of the top selling jerseys on the sports merchandise website Fanatics.com, according to data obtained by Sports Illustrated. Brady’s No. 12 Patriots jersey trails only top draft picks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota for No. 1 in sales.

A representative from Fanatics.com also told SI that since Brady’s four-game suspension was announced on Monday, sales of Brady merchandise have increased 100 percent. Fanatics.com features over 100 Brady-related items for sale.

In the days following the suspension announcement, Brady’s agent Don Yee has said his client will appeal the ruling, while it has been reported that the Patriots quarterback will hire attorney and noted NFL nemesis Jeffrey Kessler as legal counsel for the case.

If the suspension is upheld, Brady would be eligible to return Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts, missing matchups with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys.
