#TBT: Brandon Spikes Calls His Time in New England ‘Four Years a Slave’
Brandon Spikes, former second round draft pick and middle linebacker for the Patriots, visited with the team Wednesday, according to an ESPN report. Currently a free agent, Spikes spend last season in Buffalo with the division rival Buffalo Bills.
Spikes went on a Twitter rant in April of 2014, saying it’d be “icing on the cake’’ to beat the Patriots twice, and referring to his tenure in New England as “four years a slave.’’

The Patriots beat the Bills, 37-22, in Week 6, then lost a meaningless Week 17 game to Buffalo in which Spikes did not make a tackle.
It’s surprising to see the Patriots interested in Spikes, but they’re clearly looking for linebacker depth. Former Patriot Dane Fletcher also visited Wednesay, per Rich Hill of Pats Pulpit.
Spikes made 54 total tackles last season in 16 games, making 10 starts. He made 292 total tackles and forced five fumbles in his four seasons in New England. His last Patriots-related interaction was his Twitter reaction to the guilty verdict in the trial of Aaron Hernandez his former teammate at the University of Florida and with the Patriots.
