Patriots Finally Beef Up Offensive Line With Florida State Guard Tre’ Jackson

The New England Patriots are setting up a reunion on the interior of their offensive line.

With their second fourth-round pick (111th overall), the Patriots selected Florida State guard Tre’ Jackson. Jackson was considered one of the top guard prospects in the country in 2013, but took a step back without Bryan Stork in 2014. Now, the two will be reunited on the Patriots’ offensive line.

At 6-foot-4 and 330 pounds, Jackson is immediately one of the biggest interior linemen on the Patriots’ roster. As such, his strength is in the running game, where he can use his size to dominate the man in front of him. His weakness is in pass protection, where his lack of lateral agility leaves him susceptible to quicker interior pass-rushers.

The 2014 unanimous All-American and 2013-2014 first-team All-ACC selection played in 49 games at Florida State and started 42.

The Patriots brought back former offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia to assist in the scouting process of offensive linemen, and Scarnecchia was on hand at Florida State’s pro day. He must have liked what he saw from Jackson for the Patriots to take the plunge.
