The Patriots and Danny Amendola have reportedly reached an agreement on a restructured deal that will keep Amendola in New England and free up some cap space for other players.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Amendola gave up $2.25 million in salary overt the next three seasons, but can earn the money back through incentives.

Under the terms of his original deal, Amendola carried a $5.7 million cap hit for 2015, with that number escalating by $1 million in each of the following two seasons. It would have cost $3.6 million against the cap in “dead money’’ to release Amendola outright.

It’s good news for the Patriots, who convinced Amendola to restructure and stay rather than cut the man who caught three touchdowns last postseason, including one from Julian Edelman. Amendola’s return means four of Tom Brady’s top five targets from 2014 will be back, with Shane Vereen the lone exception.
