The Patriots are considering a trade for Philadelphia Eagles left guard Evan Mathis, according to a source cited by The Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe.

The 33-year-old Mathis made the Pro Bowl each of the last two seasons, but is apparently on the trading block. Citing an unnamed source, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport also reported on Thursday that the Eagles were “working’’ to trade him.

Mathis, for his part, was evidently not impressed by the reports.

Should the Patriots acquire Mathis, they would assume his base salaries of $5.5 million in 2015 and $6 million in 2016.

Mathis would likely slide into the left guard spot vacated by Dan Connolly, who is now a free agent. The Patriots are expected to return 2014-15 offensive line starters Nate Solder, Bryan Stork, Ryan Wendell and Sebastian Vollmer.
