A day after the Patriots saw a key player from their championship defense head to the New York Jets, their AFC Championship Game opponent beefed up its offense.

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Wednesday that they had signed free agent wide receiver Andre Johnson, less than 24 hours after inking running back Frank Gore.

The former University of Miami teammates met with Colts brass on Wednesday and toured the team’s facilities in Indianapolis as they officially became members of the Colts.

Frank Gore joins the Colts after it had been previously reported that he was planning to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles. The 31-year-old spent the first 10 years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, breaking 1,000 yards rushing in eight of those season, while tallying 64 touchdowns in 148 games.

Johnson comes to Indianapolis after playing the first decade-plus of his career with the Houston Texans. The wideout logged seven 1,000+ receiving yard seasons in Houston, while being named to the Pro Bowl seven times.

The Colts offense accounted for the third highest total yards (6,505) and the sixth highest points per game average (28.6) in the league last season. Johnson gives Andrew Luck another weapon through the air, joining a receiving corps that led the NFL in yards per game (316.4), while Gore should help bolster their run game that logged the 11th lowest rushing totals, gaining just over 100 yards per game on the ground.

As good as the Colts offense was as a whole, however, they failed to get the job down when it mattered, putting up just seven points AFC title game as the Patriots throttled them, 45-7. With their offensive additions and the Patriots’ defensive losses, the Colts hope that a rematch this year would be a different story.
