TBT: Jamie Collins Destroys the NFL Combine

Jamie Collins was a workout warrior before he became a star with the Patriots. AP

Jamie Collins is one of the top young linebackers in football, and he gave viewers a glimpse of things to come at the NFL combine two years ago when he dominated the workouts and set a record that still stands today.

Collins leaped 11 feet and 7 inches in the broad jump, which is the longest in combine history. The broad jump tests lower body explosion, and Collins has showcased that explosion as a blitzer, tackler, and in coverage.

Collins measured 6’3’’ and 250 pounds at the combine and was among the top 5 linebackers in the vertical leap (41.5 inches), 40-yard dash (4.64 seconds), 3-cone drill (7.1 seconds), and 60-yard shuttle (11.55 seconds). It was a beastly performance all-around.

The Patriots selected Collins with the 52nd overall pick in the 2013 draft. Two years in, that’s looking more and more like highway robbery.
