ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that the NFL fired a league official who mishandled the Patriots’ footballs during the AFC Championship Game.

The step-by-step developments, according to Schefter.

There were a few different league officials who handled the footballs at the game. Schefter called these people League Official 1, League Official 2, and League Official 3 during an Outside The Lines segment.

League Official 1 has been fired for taking one of the footballs out of the game with the apparent intention of selling it for personal profit. League Official 2 noticed a football was missing and tried to replace it with a different ball (one that was not pre-approved). League Official 1 realized someone had noticed the missing ball and tried to return the ball he/she swiped back into play, so Patriots locker room attendant Jim McNally – the focal point of Tuesday’s Outside The Lines report – had two league officials handing him different balls.

Schefter said all of this information was captured on video tape and had been turned over to the NFL. Schefter said that these details will be documented in the Wells report.
