WATCH: Gronk Is Not as Good at Dodgeball as You Would Think

Rob Gronkowski is arguably the Patriots’ second-best player behind Tom Brady and inarguably the best tight end in the NFL when healthy, but when it comes to dodgeball, his skills leave something to be desired.

Gronk did his best Ben Stiller impersonation Wednesday night during the second intermission of an ECHL hockey game in Florida last night, and the results weren’t pretty.

Tom Brady praised the vacuum hands of his top target in a recent MMQB.SI.com column, but Gronk showed little of his trademark dexterity Wednesday, dropping two balls and failing to get anyone out.

Former Boston Globe sports correspondent, now-Everblades Premium Sales Associate, Ian Tasso, spoke with Boston.com Thursday to provide a little context to the clip.

Per Tasso, Gronk was in the area visiting family and decided to take in some minor league hockey. He was originally going to do a simple puck drop a la his Bruins appearance last week, but instead joined the on-ice dodgeball game between the group of lucky Everblades fans.

Tasso said he was a little disappointed with Gronk’s drops, but acknowledged the obvious challenge of playing an on-ice dodgeball game in sneakers.

“It’s dodgeball on ice – which can’t be easy,’’ he said in a message. “Part of the game is even standing up, so that’s an accomplishment in itself.’’

While it wasn’t a great showing from a competitive standpoint, Patriots fan Tasso said he was impressed by Gronk’s way with the fans.

“What other athletes would be willing to strap on a helmet and play dodgeball at a Wednesday night ECHL game? He had a blast,’’ Tasso said. “Happy to be there, smiling, taking photos, laughing. He’s just a genuine good guy and it was really cool to have him
