Reports: Richie Incognito to Join Buffalo Bills
Richie Incognito is close to returning to the NFL.
The former Miami Dolphins guard is scheduled for a Saturday physical with the Buffalo Bills and – barring any setbacks – is expected to sign with the team, according to multiple media reports.
Citing an unnamed source described as close to Bills coach Rex Ryan, The Buffalo News reported on Friday that the team was on the verge of signing the controversial offensive lineman. ESPN.com Bills reporter Mike Rodak later confirmed the report, also citing an unnamed source.
NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington later reported, citing a source, that Incognito to the Bills was a “done deal.’’
Incognito has been out of the NFL since 2013, when he was suspended and later cut by the Dolphins in the wake of a bullying scandal involving former teammate Jonathan Martin. An NFL investigation led by attorney Ted Wells found that Incognito, along with fellow offensive linemen John Jerry and Mike Pouncey, engaged in a “pattern of harassment’’ of Martin.
Martin left the Dolphins in October 2013. He played 15 games during the 2014 season with the San Francisco 49ers. Incognito, who was cleared to play by the NFL in August, tried out for a few teams as a free agent in 2014, but ended up sitting out the entire season.
Incognito has played 102 games in his nine-year NFL career with the Dolphins, Bills, and St. Louis Rams. He was named to the Pro Bowl following the 2012 season.
