This Time, the Patriots Survive an Iconic Catch

As Kearse and Malcolm Brown fell to the ground on a deep pass from Russell Wilson, Butler’s hand grazed the football and propped it up in the air. From his back, Kearse was able to corral the football for a 33-yard gain, setting up first and goal from the 5-yard line.

This time, the Patriots persevered. Butler intercepted Wilson two plays later, sealing the win and ensuring the Patriots would capture their fourth Lombardi Trophy.

Throw in the Mario Manningham catch that ignited the Giants’ winning drive in the Super Bowl 3 seasons ago, and the third time really was the charm for the Patriots and overcoming incredible catches late in the fourth quarter.
