New Report Suggests Deflategate Was Overblown
Only one of the footballs that the Patriots used in the first half of the AFC Championship Game was more than 2 PSI under the legal minimum, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport’s story contradicts the original report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that 11 of the 12 footballs were 2 PSI under the minimum. Rapoport reported that many of the footballs were “just a few ticks’’ below the 12.5 PSI minimum.
Citing unnamed sources, Rapoport reported the man who handled the footballs prior to the game is described as “elderly’’ and his infamous bathroom trip was timed at 98 seconds.
This latest report also garnered attention for Rapoport’s connection to the NFL.
