The urge to spike inanimate objects doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Rob Gronkowki’s mother is universally acknowledged as a saint for keeping her five boys away from sharp objects well into adulthood. Diane Gronkowski released some pent up energy Saturday night during the NFL Honors awards show in Phoenix, doing to her son’s Comeback Player of the Year Award what he does to footballs.

Gronkowski tore his ACL last season but returned to form in 2014, totaling 82 catches for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns. His 27 votes were easily good enough to get him past Philadelphia’s Jeremy Maclin, who got seven votes.
