Junior Seau, who played parts of four seasons with the Patriots, headlined the 2015 class for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the NFL announced Saturday night.

Seau will be enshrined in his first year of eligibility. Running back Jerome Bettis, defensive lineman Charles Haley, offensive lineman Will Shields and wide receiver Tim Brown were also elected. Former execuitives Bill Polian and Ron Wolf were also elected as contributors, as was senior committee nominee Mick Tinglehoff, a longtime center for the Minnesota Vikings.

The late Seau played 18 years in the NFL for the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and the Patriots. He was remembered fondly earlier this week by Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who said he “loved coaching him.’’

“It’s obviously got to happen,’’ Belichick said in Arizona. “I can’t imagine having a Professional Football Hall of Fame without Junior Seau in it.’’
