Broncos, Head Coach Fox Mutually Agree to Part Ways

UPDATE: Some Broncos players were less than thrilled to discover their coaching staff had been gutted and took to Twitter to express their dismay.

ORIGINAL STORY: After losing at home to the Indianapolis Colts in Sunday’s AFC Divisional Round playoff game, the Denver Broncos and head coach John Fox have decided to part ways according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and FOX’s Jay Glazer.

There were whispers prior to Sunday’s game from Glazer and others that this move could be made if the Broncos were to lose the game. Jeff Darlington of NFL Network reports that Broncos GM and executive vice president of football operations John Elway informed the entire Broncos coaching staff that “they have permission to look elsewhere.’’

Fox, who went to a Super Bowl as head coach of the Carolina Panthers with Jake Delhomme at quarterback and won another playoff game in Denver with Tim Tebow under center, finished his tenure with the Broncos at 46-18 in four years. He was 3-4 with Denver in the postseason, inclduing a loss in last year’s Super Bowl.
