Patriots Are People, Too: Devin McCourty Loves NBA2K15, Playing As Kevin Durant

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Each week, here on the Extra Points blog, we will get to know a few fun facts about a particular Patriots’ player. This week, we catch up with safety Devin McCourty as the team gets ready for the playoffs.
Erik Frenz: Tell me one thing about yourself that I wouldn’t find in a Google search.
Devin McCourty: That I’m a singer.
EF: What position do you sing?
DM: Whatever they need. I’m actually more of a gospel singer…
EF: I’m guessing you’re a baritone?
DM: Nah, I’m just messing. I guess I like to play video games. NBA2K. In my head, that’s my chance to play in the NBA.
EF: You got a favorite team to play as in the game?
DM: OKC.
EF: Favorite players on that team?
DM: [Kevin] Durant.
EF: Of course. So in one word, describe to me how you feel before a football game.
DM: Excited. Just love the opportunity to play.
EF: You’re from Nyack, New York. How does Foxborough compare to your home town?
DM: Slower *chuckles*.
EF: Who’s the funniest guy on the team in your opinion?
DM: I’ll go with Zo [Alfonzo Dennard].
EF: Any good Alfonzo stories you can share without getting anybody in trouble?
DM: Nah, nah!
EF: What’s your favorite thing about football season?
DM: Playoffs.
EF: Do you have a least favorite thing about football season?
DM: Training camp.
EF: Any unique pregame rituals you go through before every game?
DM: Not really. Music, IV, and I’ve got my brother’s number and my number on the back of all my cleats.
EF: What did it feel like the moment you found out you’d be playing for the Patriots?
DM: It was cool. My mom cried, so I’d say it was life-changing.
EF: Mom’s reaction is always No. 1 isn’t it?
DM: Yeah. Absolutely.
EF: Who was your favorite player growing up?
DM: Emmitt Smith.
EF: Anything about Emmitt Smith that you liked specifically?
DM: I really liked the way he played, but when I read his biography, and learned who he was as a person, different stories I read about him growing up, that’s what really like me made him more.
EF: Do you have a favorite player nowadays?
DM: No—well, I guess my brother.
EF: Do you have a favorite play you’ve ever made in your career?
DM: I’d probably say Thanksgiving my rookie year, two interceptions vs. the Detroit Lions.

EF: What’s your proudest moment of your playing career so far?
DM: I would say playing in the Super Bowl but we lost that, so I would say just being at the coin toss in the Super Bowl, being a captain.
EF: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
DM: I’d be like Wolverine. Ultimate healing. I could do anything.
