The Patriots were a happy bunch on Sunday night after closing out their week in California with a 23-14 win over the San Diego Chargers.

But that was nothing compared to how amped they got when coach Bill Belichick addressed them in the locker room after the game and gave them Monday off.

“That’s a damn good win,” the coach says with a smile. “We’ll see everybody… Wednesday.”

Predictably, cheers, hoots and hollers ensue.

Victory Monday gave the team an extra day to rest up before starting in on preparations for this Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. After making it through their last six games with a 5-1 record that very easily could have been a perfect 6-0, and maintaining the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC, Belichick clearly felt his players deserved a little reward.
