UPDATE: Nike has increased the length of the suspension they handed down regarding thier contract with Peterson to forever.

According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, the shoe giant terminated its arrangement with Peterson on Thursday afternoon. Nike originally levied the suspension on Sept. 17.

Adrian Peterson avoided jail time in a child abuse case that has kept him out of the NFL since early September, but the plea deal Peterson reached Tuesday is no guarantee that he gets back on the field.

The league has already rejected the possibility of immediate reinstatement, according to a FoxSports report. Two sources told FoxSports that Peterson’s team tried to prod the NFL on a decision before Tuesday, knowing that a plea deal was imminent:

“Short of immediate reinstatement, Peterson’s camp hoped to at least come to an understanding on what the Minnesota Vikings running back would need to do in order to be return to the field and how quickly that could occur.

The sources said the NFL executives made it clear a decision on Peterson’s status would be forthcoming, and the league would inform Peterson at that point.’’

Peterson hasn’t played since Week 1 of the NFL season after agreeing to be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list while his legal proceedings played out. Peterson has been paid by the team during his absence.

Peterson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of assault Tuesday, charges brought against him when he allegedly struck his 4-year-old son with a tree branch. He was fined $4,000 and must serve 80 hours of community service.
