Darius Fleming, James White Among Practice Players of the Week

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The Patriots have suffered key injuries at linebacker and running back this week. If practice is any indication, there may be a couple players they can count on to step into those spots.

Linebacker Darius Fleming and running back James White were among last week’s practice players of the week.

Fleming was on the Patriots’ final 53-man roster coming out of training camp, but was bumped off the roster in Week 2 to make room for Deontae Skinner. He spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons on injured reserve after tearing the ACL in his left and right knee, respectively.

White was a fourth-round pick for the Patriots in 2014, but has not yet seen the field this season. He was a bellcow running back at Wisconsin, rushing for 4,015 yards and 45 touchdowns in his four-year career, with 1,444 of those yards and 13 of those touchdowns coming in his senior year.

Fleming was likely doing his best impersonation of Bills linebacker Brandon Spikes, while White was carrying out the role of Bills running backs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller.

The Patriots have not yet announced a roster move for either running back Stevan Ridley or linebacker Jerod Mayo, both of whom are reported to have suffered season-ending injuries against the Bills.

Cornerback Malcolm Butler and defensive end Jake Bequetter were announced as the other practice players of the week.
