Photo Roll: 10 Memorable Scenes From Patriots’ victory over Buffalo
In their Week 6 matchup with the Buffalo Bills, the Patriots’ offense rolled the Bills in the second half, scoring 24 points over the final two quarters en route to a 37-22 win. Here’s a look back at some of the most memorable images from Sunday’s contest at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y.
Before the game, Bills fans used cards to spell out “ONE BUFFALO’’ in the stands as Terry Pegula was introduced as the new owner of the Bills. The team had been in the family of late owner Ralph Wilson since their founding as a charter member of the AFL in 1960. Wilson passed away in March and the team was put up for sale, leading to speculation that the franchise could move, but the Pegula family has said publically they plan to keep the team in Buffalo.
Wide receiver Brandon LaFell celebrates his fourth quarter touchdown that put the Pats up 30-14 with 8:42 to play in the game. LaFell would score another with 2:49 left to seal the victory for New England; he finished the day with 97 yards receiving to go along with his two touchdowns, as he, Rob Gronkowski (94), and Julian Edelman (91) all recorded over 90 yards receiving in the game.
Wide receiver Brian Tyms hauled in a touchdown catch in his first game with the Patriots after making this sensational catch over Buffalo’s Stephon Gillmore. It was the only catch of the day for Tyms, as he played just eight snaps, but he made it count on this 43-yard bomb from Tom Brady 2:30 into the second half.
Tom Brady and Bills linebacker Brandon Spikes meet on the field after the Patriots’ 37-22 win. Spikes played four seasons in New England from 2010-13, but his unceremonious departure left a bad taste in the mouth of both sides. Spikes had been quite vocal about his desire to beat the Patriots in both of their meetings this season, but the first game was all New England.
Defensive end Rob Ninkovich takes down Bills quarterback Kyle Orton in the fourth quarter of the Patriots’ win in Buffalo. Ninkovich recorded three of the Patriots’ five sacks on the day, while making six total tackles, second on the team behind Patrick Chung.
Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork consoles teammate Jerod Mayo after Mayo was loaded onto a cart after suffering a serious knee injury in the second quarter. The Patriots’ All-Pro linebacker could miss the rest of the season if the injury is as bad as the team fears. Mayo also was lost for the year in 2013 after suffering a torn pectoral muscle in Week 6.
Patriots running back Stevan Ridley pounds the ground while being attended to by a Patriots trainer. Ridley had run for 23 yards on 10 carries before suffering a knee injury in the third quarter. The injury appeared to be very serious, with the team fearing their former 1,200 yard rusher may have a torn ACL that could end his season.
Patriots fans held their breath in the third quarter, as Rob Gronkowski went down to the ground in obvious pain, clutching his left knee. He had to be helped off the field, but later returned to the game and finished the contest with seven catches for 94 yards. A devastating knee injury ended Gronkowski’s season last year, one year after a broken arm saw him miss the end of the 2012 season.
After a 29-yard pass interference penalty on the Bills put the Patriots on the 1-yard line in the first quarter, Tom Brady lofted this pass to tight end Tim Wright, who made the catch to give the Patriots a 7-0 lead early in the game. It was the only catch on the only target for Wright, but this score was the second in as many weeks for the New England tight end.
Linebacker Jamie Collins takes down Bills running back C.J. Spiller in the first quarter on Sunday. The Patriots held the talented Buffalo rushing tandem of Spiller and Fred Jackson to just 45 yards on the ground, while the Bills were only able to rush for a total of 68 throughout the entire game.
