Anheuser-Busch, the NFL’s primary beer sponsor, issued a statement Tuesday in response to the league’s handling of recent off-field incidents involving NFL players and their alleged abuse toward women and children.

Early last week, the league suspended Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice indefinitely after video surfaced of Rice knocking out his wife. On Friday, Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson was made inactive by the team after being indicted on child abuse charges. The team reversed course Monday, reinstating Peterson and making him available to play this week.

Anheuser-Busch signed a six-year, $1.2 billion sponsorship deal with the league in 2011. Since 2009, they’ve spent more than any another company on Super Bowl advertising.

On Monday, the Radisson hotel chain pulled its sponsorship of the Vikings. The loss of Anheuser-Busch would be a much, much bigger deal.
