Sam joins the Cowboys after being cut from the St. Louis Rams Saturday. Sam was drafted by the Rams out of Missouri. ESPN reported yesterday that Dallas would be bringing Sam in for a physical.
Sam made headlines when he came out as gay prior to the NFL Draft. An openly gay player has yet to appear in a regular season NFL game.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett told reporters Wednesday that the decision to sign Sam was about football.
“We evaluated him as a football player and felt like he could help us as a football player. We want to see what he can do,” said Garrett.
Sam tweeted his excitement at his new opportunity.
The most worthwhile things in life rarely come easy, this is a lesson I’ve always known. The journey continues.
