Brees the poster boy to Saints success

NEW ORLEANS — It starts on the field, obviously. But the way Drew Brees carries himself, the way he says all the right things — even the way he combs his hair — gives Saints fans something to be proud of.

He’s a deserving poster boy for the success story of the 2009 NFL season.

“We played a tremendous football team tonight,” said Brees. “They know how to win. They do things the right way. Anytime you can win and win that way it builds confidence for you.”

On the field, of course, Brees played almost a perfect game tonight. The Saints quarterback threw for 371 yards and 5 touchdowns, good for a sparkling 158.3 quarterback rating.

At the podium, Brees played down the hype of this particular game.

“I think people are going to talk about this game and maybe blow it out of proportion a little bit,” said Brees. “This game doesn’t entitle us to anything. It’s just another win in the win column. If anything, you have the challenge of coming back on a short week and playing at Washington…we’ll enjoy this one for 24 hours or less and get ready for the next one.”
