Brady: ‘It’s an emotional game’

Tom Brady isn’t usually one to pull a Dan Marino and stare down or berate a receiver after a mistake.

So it was somewhat surprising yesterday when the Patriots quarterback wasn’t as cool or collected as usual after a pair of apparent mistakes by receivers Joey Galloway and Sam Aiken.

Fox cameras caught Brady yelling toward the Patriots bench frustration and perhaps even anger during the second quarter. Galloway had dropped a pass inside the 5-yard line and Aiken cut short a route in the end zone, leading to a stalled drive in the red area.

During his weekly Monday interview with WEEI’s “Dennis and Callahan” show, Brady spoke about the outburst, though he didn’t expound much.

“It’s the heat of the moment,” Brady said. “It’s an emotional game, there are emotional things that you say.”

Brady has appeared to have a particularly difficult time finding chemistry with Galloway, an accomplished veteran receiver who has struggled to fit with the Patriots, making more than his share of mental and physical mistakes early in the season.

“It’s part of offensive football, that quarterback-receiver relationship,” Brady said. “It’s not that I’m right and they’re wrong, we’re just on different pages at times. That’s what it is earlier in the year when you’ve never played with each other.”
