Izzo signs with Jets
Larry Izzo, the Patriots’ long-time special teams standout who played on all three of the franchise’s Super Bowl champions, signed with the New York Jets today.
The news was first learned in a Boston Herald report by Karen Guregian, who emailed with Izzo.
Update at 5:45 p.m. — The Globe has since confirmed that Izzo has signed with the Jets, per a league source.
Izzo, who signed as a free agent with the Patriots before the 2001 season, is a four-time Pro Bowl selection as a special teams player. Through 2008, Izzo has more more special teams tackles than any other active player — 243 in 172 career games — though the league does not consider it an official statistic.
The 34-year-old began his NFL career in 1996 when he was signed by the Miami Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent.
