On Wednesday, the Charlotte Hornets announced their scheduled theme nights for the 2025-2026 season. These include a “Throwback Night,” a “Breast Cancer Awareness Night,” and on March 17 against the Miami Heat, “Sports Betting Night.”
However, just one day after the announcement, they decided to take this theme off their schedule.
That March 17 game features former Celtics and Hornets guard Terry Rozier, who has been involved in a gambling investigation. In January, Rozier found himself involved in a sports betting scandal that saw Raptors forward Jontay Porter get given a lifetime ban from the NBA.
According to prosecutors, in March of 2023, Rozier played in a game between the Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans. According to ESPN, a bettor placed 30 bets in 46 minutes totaling almost $14,000, all of which involved Rozier. He ended up only playing 10 minutes in this game, and all of these bets won.
Rozier has still yet to comment, saying at the time, “On advice from counsel, I can’t answer any questions about that matter. So I won’t.”
Rozier has not yet been found guilty of anything, but the situation remains under investigation. Rozier is currently under contract with the Miami Heat for the 2025-26 season.
Fans quickly realized the connection between the theme night and Rozier, posting this on the Hornets community X account:

Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that the Hornets have removed that theme night from their schedule, but did not specify a reason when asked.
