ESPN continues cost-cutting by laying off NBA writer and podcaster Zach Lowe

ESPN laid off NBA writer and podcaster Zach Lowe Thursday, the latest casualty of the network’s cost-cutting measures.
In mid-August, ESPN fired NFL studio anchor Sam Ponder and analyst Robert Griffin III as part of its intention to meet a budget by the end of September.
Lowe’s dismissal is for the same reason, according to an industry source. ESPN is not expected to lay off any more on-air personalities with the budget having now been met.
Over his 12 years at ESPN — initially at Bill Simmons’s Grantland website before moving to the main site in 2015 — Lowe emerged as one of the most insightful voices anywhere on the NBA.

His “Lowe Post” podcast, which posted an episode Wednesday, was a must-listen for NBA fans, particularly those with an analytical bent. He also appeared frequently on the network’s NBA programming such as “NBA Today” as well as writing for the paywalled website.
Lowe, 47, is a Connecticut native and graduate of Dartmouth. He began his journalism career as a courts, crime, and government reporter at the Stamford (Conn.) Advocate in 2004.
He began writing part-time for the blog Celtics Hub a few years later, and was hired by Sports Illustrated in 2010.
