Patrick Beverley chucks basketball at fans, tells reporter she ‘can’t interview’ him
Beverley said Malinda Adams needed to leave the circle because she doesn't subscribe to his podcast.
In the final minutes of Thursday’s season-ending, Game 6 loss to the Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley threw a basketball at fans multiple times from the bench.
He chucked the ball at one fan, asked for a pass back after he appeared to miss his initial target, then immediately whipped it at another without remorse.
“Not Fair at all,” Beverley tweeted early Friday morning. “Exchanged between a fan and our ball club all night. We warned and asked for help all night. Not fair.”
He continued to lash out at those around him after the game. In a media scrum, Beverley asked a reporter, ESPN’s Malinda Adams, if she subscribes to his podcast, Pat Bev Pod. She replied that she doesn’t, and Beverley wasn’t pleased with that response.
“You can’t interview me then,” he said, according to Alex Golden, Creator/Host of Pacers podcast Setting the Pace.
He then implored Adams to get the mic out of his face multiple times.
“Move that mic, please, or just get out the circle, please, for me, please ma’am,” Beverley said. “If you’re not subscribed to my pod. I appreciate it. Thank you.”
Many took to Twitter to defend Adams and criticize Beverley’s hostile behavior. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said Beverley would “have to make a couple apologies for stuff tonight.”
Colleague Malika Andrews called Adams “one of the best in the business — a consummate pro.”
Former NBA player Channing Frye said Beverley needs to offer a “huge apology.”
Beverley offered a short apology on Twitter, saying: “But I have to better. And I will.”
Adams tweeted Friday morning that Beverley called her and apologized directly, as did the Bucks.
