Even though he still hasn’t received a COVID-19 vaccination shot, Nets star point guard Kyrie Irving will be playing in games again soon.

Irving will rejoin the Nets as a part-time player, playing in games outside of New York, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday.

The Nets have sidelined Irving up to this point in the season because he wasn’t willing to follow New York City’s vaccine mandate, ruling him out for all home games. However, the Nets have changed their tune because of recent injuries, losing players to health and safety protocols, and “an inordinate minutes load on their superstar players,” according to Wojnarowski. As of Friday evening, the Nets have seven players in health and safety protocols while another five players are dealing with injuries.

Irving will be allowed to practice in Brooklyn under New York City’s guidelines despite being unable to play in home games. But Irving will need to test negative for COVID-19 for five straight days before he can rejoin the team.
