Vanessa Bryant, the wife of late Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, called out rapper Meek Mill on Instagram for his lyric referencing Bryant in an untitled song.
Earlier this month, the lyrics to an unreleased Meek Mill song leaked. One line, in particular, raised the ire of the internet.
“This b—- I’m f—– always tell me that she love but she ain’t ever showed me,” the line read. “Yeah, and if I ever lack, I’m going out with my chopper, it be another Kobe.”
Vanessa Bryant responded on Tuesday, posting a message on Instagram with Meek Mill tagged.
“Dear @meekmill, I find this line to be extremely insensitive and disrespectful. Period,” she wrote. “I am not familiar with any of your music, but I believe you can do better than this. If you are a fan, fine, there’s a better way to show your admiration for my husband. This lacks respect and tact.”
Meek Mill later tweeted that he apologized in private.
“Nothing I say on my page directed to a internet viral moment or the family of a grieving woman!” he tweeted. “If you care about someone grieving change the subject!”
Meek Mill’s “chopper” line is a play on words, referring to an AK-47 rifle as well as a helicopter. Bryant died in a helicopter crash in Jan. 2020.
