Welcome to Boston.com’s Sports Q, our daily conversation, initiated by you and moderated by Chad Finn, about a compelling topic in Boston sports. Here’s how it works: You submit questions to Chad through TwitterFacebook, and email,He’ll pick one each weekday to answer, then we’ll take the discussion to the comments. Chad will stop by several times per day to navigate. But you drive the conversation. Not sure if you saw this, but Kevin McHale said the other night on NBA TV that the Celtics should try to trade for Kevin Love. Is this possible and should they do it? – Steve C.

Far be it for me to disagree with the greatest post player of all time, but I can’t see how it would work in a way that would benefit the Celtics. I think McHale has favoritism toward fellow Kevins.

He’s obviously a very good player who would help with their rebounding, and in a vacuum, sure, let’s pick him up. But it’s not that easy, of course. He makes $28.9 million this year, with similar salaries through the 2022-23 season, when he’ll be 34. The Celtics would have to include some appealing talent and picks to make this worthwhile for the Cavs, and they’d also have to include talent off of what right now is a very likable and good basketball team. (Starting with Marcus Smart, I suspect, and he’s the heart of this team.)

And he’s not exactly what they need right now – which is basically Tyson Chandler from eight years ago, a defensive-minded big that can rebound and finish at the rim. The Celtics don’t need to be making deals for accomplished stars that will soon be advancing past their prime. They need depth and height.

Kevin Love might have been a great fit for the Celtics a couple of years ago, when he was hanging out with Rajon Rondo at Red Sox games and the future post-KG and post-Paul Pierce was murky. He’s not now. Heck, if you’re going to take someone off the Cavs roster to add the Celtics, the better fit right now would be Tristan Thompson.

But what does everyone else think? Should the Celtics try to trade for Kevin Love? I’ll hear you in the comments.
