Bryan Colangelo says ‘someone’s out to get me’ as Sixers investigate Twitter accounts
As the Philadelphia 76ers investigate whether their president of basketball operations was using burner accounts on Twitter to reveal team information and criticize players, Bryan Colangelo maintains his innocence.
“Someone’s out to get me,” Colangelo texted Yahoo Sports. “… This is clearly not me.”
On Tuesday, a report by The Ringer connected Colangelo to five accounts that have taken aim at Joel Embiid and former Sixers president Sam Hinkie, among others, while disclosing medical information about former center Jahlil Okafor. Colangelo acknowledged using one of the accounts but denied knowing anything about the other four. The Sixers launched an investigation into the “serious” allegations.
Colangelo told Yahoo Sports that he is “hopeful to resolve this soon.” The executive also said that while he can’t be sure he was deliberately set up, he stands by his statement that the accounts do not belong to him.
A new detail brought to light by Twitter user ‘Did the Sixers win?’ suggests that Barbara Bottini, Colangelo’s wife, has a phone number that ends in 91. Three of the burner accounts share the same numbers.

Wait … where’d Hanley go?: The Red Sox’ decision to designate Ramirez for assignment still resonates and bewilders. His time here was mostly disappointing, Chad Finn writes, but his 2016 season was exhilarating and the team is not quite as interesting without him. (Boston.com)
Michigan football team makes an offer to local eighth grader: Buckingham Browne & Nichols linebacker/tight end Tyler Martin drew the attention of the Wolverines. The 15-year-old Acton resident, who stands 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 227 pounds, led his team with more than 100 tackles last season. (Boston.com)
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is crushing it, and New Hampshire has never seen anything like it: Guerrero Jr., the son of former Montreal Expos fan favorite Vladimir Guerrero, is the best prospect in the minor leagues. The 19-year-old third baseman is attracting something of a cult following for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. (Boston.com)
