Boston College beat Army, 48-27
Andre Williams tied a Boston College record with five touchdowns runs, and was 1 yard shy of tying another mark by rushing for a career-high 263 yards on 30 carries to lift the Eagles to a 48-27 victory over Army before a crowd of 33,128 Saturday at Alumni Stadium.
Williams, who entered the game 13th on BC’s all-time rushing list, leapfrogged Darnell Campbell (2,096) and Fred Willis (2,155), and eclipsed the 200-yard mark for the second time this season, moving into 11th place with 2,341 yards and 17 TDs.
Williams scored on runs of 34, 1, 37, 3, and 34 yards to tie the school record set by Montel Harris in 2009 vs. North Carolina State. Harris also set the school’s rushing record with 264 yards vs. the Wolfpack.
Williams temporarily surpassed Harris’s record with a 3-yard gain to give him 265, but he lost 2 yards on his next carry.
Williams’s rushing effort helped the Eagles (3-2) snap a two-game losing streak.
It also avenged a 34-31 setback at Army last year, one in which Williams rushed for a then-career-high 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including a 99-yard score. Williams now has 448 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in his last two games against the Black Knights.
A shutdown of the federal government had threatened the postponement or cancellation of the game when the Department of Defense ordered a suspension of all intercollegiate sports activities at the service academies. IBut approval was given Wednesday night for the academies to participate in this weekend’s games.
The Eagles also got 203 passing yards from Chase Rettig, and field goals of 49 and 28 yards from Nate Freese.
