Patriots opt for line help in latest NFL mock draft

"Banks' power and push in the middle could open things further for [Christian] Barmore and [Milton] Williams to rush the passer."

The latest Patriots mock draft: With less than a month to go before the NFL Draft, mock draft season is in full swing.

There are no shortage of mocks to check, and the Patriots (who head into the draft holding the 31st overall pick) are projected to potentially take a wide array of players. The most recent version, presented by ESPN’s Matt Miller, predicts a strategy predicated on practicality.

Miller has the Patriots picking Florida defensive tackle Caleb Banks in the first round. Banks, 23, is an intriguing prospect from a talent perspective. Injuries limited his game-time in college, but scouts have liked what they’ve seen from him in the pre-draft process.

“Banks missed much of last season because of a left foot injury but impressed during the Senior Bowl and combine, showing rare movement ability at 6-foot-6 and 327 pounds with a 5.04 40,” wrote Miller. “Banks’ power and push in the middle could open things further for [Christian] Barmore and [Milton] Williams to rush the passer.”

The rest of Miller’s seven-round projection looks like this from a Patriots’ standpoint:

  • 2nd round: Max Iheanachor, OT, Arizona State
  • 3rd round: Sam Roush, TE, Stanford
  • 4th round: Jack Endries, TE, Texas
  • 4th round: Ja’Kobi Lane, WR, USC
  • 5th round: Caden Curry, Edge, Ohio State
  • 6th round: Fernando Carmona, G, Arkansas
  • 6th round: Jackson Kuwatch, LB, Miami (OH)
  • 6th round: Jaylon Guilbeau, CB, Texas
  • 6th round: Brandon Cleveland, DT, NC State
  • 7th round: Jordan Hudson, WR, SMU
