Greg Olsen’s in-game take on Drake Maye and the MVP race: During the Patriots‘ eventual 38-10 win over the Dolphins on Sunday, Fox Sports commentator Greg Olsen touched on a controversial subject within NFL circles.
The back-and-forth discussion over who will win the league’s Most Valuable Player award is in full swing. The two most likely candidates at this point are Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, and Patriots signal-caller Drake Maye. Olsen, who was on the call during the Patriots’ game on Sunday, waded into the debate with a clear assertion.
“You hear a lot of the knock, it’s been coming up these last couple weeks as the season winds down, and the MVP race with Drake Maye. Are they as good as their record?” Olsen questioned, referencing an oft-cited critique that the Patriots’ schedule has been on the easier side.
He replied by offering a comparison to college football conferences.
“My answer to that is this is pro ball,” Olsen said. “Someone’s not playing in the SEC and someone’s in the Sun Belt. [These are] all NFL rosters.”
Interestingly, Olsen’s pick of Maye differs from other experts. That list also includes New England legend (and fellow Fox Sports commentator) Tom Brady, who said he’d pick Stafford.
Trivia: TreVeyon Henderson scored his ninth and 10th touchdowns of the season on Sunday. He joined an exclusive group of Patriots rookies to score at least 10 touchdowns in a season. Can you name the other three players to previously do it?
(Answer at the bottom).
Hint: The year’s they did it were in 1995, 1998, and 2010.
