Damien Woody’s take on the AFC amid Patriots’ resurgence: The Patriots are now 8-2 following a 28-23 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. New England is currently tied with the Broncos and Colts for having the best record in the AFC.
Casting an eye to the conference standings — and potential playoff implications — former New England offensive lineman (and current ESPN analyst) Damien Woody sounded off during a “Get Up!” segment on Monday morning.
“The road to the Super Bowl in the AFC is going through Foxborough,” said Woody to his colleagues. Referencing a segment earlier in the season with fellow former Patriot (and ESPN employee) Tedy Bruschi, he reiterated the feeling that New England has returned to the upper echelons of the NFL.
“If my man Bruschi was here, we’d be [saying] ‘We’re back!'”
Show host Mike Greenberg, a Jets fans, complained about the Patriots’ quick comeback as New York continues to struggle.
“I can’t take it,” said Greenberg. “This was like two generations of my life, and now I have to deal with it again.”
Still, Greenberg gave credit where it’s due regarding the Patriots.
“They are legit, and they’re at the very beginning of how good they’re going to be.”
