David Ortiz and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. celebrated the Yankees’ demise: Red Sox legend David Ortiz, having watched his former team fall in the Wild-Card Series to New York, gleefully celebrated the Yankees’ loss to the Blue Jays in the American League Division Series on Wednesday night.
And during a live interview with Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from Toronto’s clubhouse, the two repeatedly reminded Ortiz’s Fox Sports MLB colleagues (ex-Yankees Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez) of New York’s demise.
“Daaaaa Yankees lose!” Ortiz shouted alongside Guerrero, repeating it several times for effect.
New York fell 5-2 to Toronto in Wednesday’s Game 4, as the Blue Jays eliminated the Yankees 3-1 in the series.
Guerrero was especially prolific, batting .529 in the series with three home runs and nine RBIs. The 26-year-old five-time All-Star has longstanding ties with Ortiz, given the latter’s friendship with his father, ex-MLB star Vladimir Guerrero Sr.
The Blue Jays’ social media team marked this by sharing a throwback photo from the 2010 Home Run Derby of Ortiz with a young Guerrero Jr.

In addition to Ortiz, fellow former Red Sox star Pedro Martinez shared his congratulations to Guerrero Jr.
Martinez, who briefly played alongside Guerrero Sr. during their time with the Expos, is Guerrero Jr.’s godfather.
“Vladdy is their daddy,” Martinez joked.

Trivia: Pedro Martinez and Vladimir Guerrero Sr. both played for the 1997 Expos. What future member of the 2004 Red Sox (aside from Martinez) also played for that team?
