Reaction to the Celtics drafting Hugo Gonzalez: With the 28th pick in the first round of Wednesday’s night’s NBA Draft, the Celtics selected forward Hugo Gonzalez.

The 19-year-old Spaniard previously played for Real Madrid, and brings athleticism, defensive intensity, and a high motor to a potential bench role in Boston. And while Gonzalez could be a player the Celtics “stash” in Europe, ESPN NBA draft analyst Jonathan Givony reported that Boston intends on “bringing Gonzalez over this season.”

In his full analysis of the pick, Givony told ESPN viewers during the draft that he thinks highly of Gonzalez’s future.

“I love this pick for the Boston Celtics,” Givony explained after the move was announced on draft night. “I’m told that they are keeping this pick, and they are bringing Hugo Gonzalez over right away. NBA teams love the intensity and frenetic energy that Hugo Gonzalez brings every moment that he’s on the court.

“He has strong court vision,” Givony added. “He’s a transition scorer, and he’s a tremendous athlete.”

In all, the draft expert thinks Boston president of basketball operations Brad Stevens made a shrewd choice.

“The Boston Celtics got one of the biggest steals in the draft here in my view,” Givony concluded.

Heading into the second round of the draft, the Celtics currently hold one more selection: 32nd overall. Picks begin again at 8 p.m.

Scores and schedules:

The Red Sox lost to the Angels 5-2 on Wednesday in a series sweep. Boston returns to Fenway Park to begin a three-game set against the Blue Jays on Friday at 7:10 p.m.

The Revolution also lost on Wednesday, falling 3-2 to Nashville at home. New England will be back in action this Saturday against the Colorado Rapids at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is slated for a little after 7:30 p.m.

Bruins to the future: Michael J. Fox made a cameo in the Bruins’ reveal of the (old) new sweater.

On this day: In 1962, Earl Wilson pitched a no-hitter in a 2-0 Red Sox win over the Angels. Wilson put together a true complete game as well, smacking a third inning home run to provide the difference in his own start.

Daily highlight: Minnesota United’s Bongi Hlongwane scored one of the more delightfully unorthodox goals that will happen in MLS this season in a 3-1 win over Houston.
