Paul Pierce trolled the Knicks with ‘Choke 2.0’ shirt

Paul Pierce trolled the Knicks: After the Celtics lost to the Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals, Boston legend Paul Pierce maintained that the Pacers would go on to beat New York in following round.

Pierce was at least partly validated after the Pacers pulled off a stunning comeback to defeat the Knicks in New York in overtime on Wednesday in Game 1. Indiana’s win included a memorable sequence at the end of regulation in which Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton hit the game-tying shot on a buzzer-beater, and proceeded to pay homage to Reggie Miller by imitating his “choke” taunt (which Miller did during a Knicks-Pacers series in the 1994).

On Thursday, Pierce — now an analyst for Fox Sports on “Speak” — showed up wearing a topical shirt: A photo of the New York Post’s back page with the headline, “Choke 2.0.”

“As you can see, I have this for my New York [fans]. Hey, listen New York fans, don’t get mad at me,” said Pierce. “Don’t get mad at me. This picture is from the New York Post.”

Pierce claimed that he had been sent the shirt.

“They sent this to me, and I was just like, alright, I like to read the New York Post. I’m a fan,” he said. The Post, in its writeup of Pierce, noted that the former Celtic “did not [explain] who ‘they’ is.”

“I don’t know if this is going to be the theme, or how the rest of this series is going to go, but I know this going to be a game we’re never going to forget.”

Game 2 is set to tip off tonight in New York at 8 p.m.

Scores and schedules:

The Red Sox will play a doubleheader against the Orioles today at Fenway Park after Thursday’s game was rained out. The first matchup gets underway at 1:35 p.m. while the second is scheduled to start at 7:10 p.m.

On Saturday, the Revolution will be on the road to play Sporting Kansas City at 8:30 p.m.

Edelman pass montage? Edelman pass montage: The Patriots randomly decided to put together a montage of every Julian Edelman pass completion in his career, so we’ll just leave this here.

On this day: In 1976, Dave Cowens led the Celtics with an amazing stat line of 25 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists in a 98-87 win over the Suns in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Boston would go on to win the title in six games.

Daily highlight: Chet Holmgren completed the alley-oop in the Thunder’s Game 2 win in the Western Conference Finals.
