Dan Orlovsky shouts out the Patriots’ draft: Since it ended on Satruday, the reactions to the Patriots’ draft have largely been positive.
Adding the specific perspective of a quarterback, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky recently praised New England’s decision to select offensive lineman Will Campbell out of LSU with the fourth overall pick. Speaking during a Monday interview on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Orlovsky cited Campbell’s character as a reason for second-year quarterback Drake Maye to feel better about his circumstances.
“I also liked New England’s [draft], and I’ve been really critical of New England,” said Orlovsky. “To get Will Campbell, and I don’t know how you’ve heard Will Campbell’s sound clips, but good lord, I would want to play quarterback for that guy. I mean Drake Maye has got to feel like the most secure person on the planet right now with that guy, with the way he talks, and the reverence he talks.”
Referencing another Monroe, Louisiana native, Orlovsky said that Campbell “reminds me of Andrew Whitworth,” a nod to the now-retired All-Pro tackle.
Scanning through other New England picks, the former NFL QB complimented the selection of skill players who will potentially feature around Maye.
“TreVeyon Henderson’s a really good back,” Orlovsky added. “I really like Kyle Williams, got to catch the ball more consistently. But just the ability to have vertical speed I think’s a really big part — a needed part — of their offense.”
“I thought they had a really good draft,” he concluded.
