A New England matchup: The Revolution will face a New England opponent in the first official clash between the two teams as the local soccer scene continues to develop.
On May 7, the Revolution will play Rhode Island FC in the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32, according to a Thursday announcement. The game will be hosted at Rhode Island’s new home venue in Pawtucket, Centreville Bank Stadium.
Rhode Island plays in the USL Championship (the second tier of U.S. soccer below MLS). The club began play in 2024, and put together a tremendous inaugural season. RIFC made it all the way to the USL Championship Final before falling to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks.
For the Revolution, it marks a return to the nation’s oldest soccer tournament after multiple MLS teams (including New England) opted to not participate in 2024.
The Revolution won the U.S. Open Cup in 2007, and have reached the final in 2001 and 2016.
The game will be available to watch on Paramount+.
