Baylor Scheierman’s homage to Rajon Rondo: While the outcome of the game had essentially been decided, the late fourth quarter of Wednesday’s Celtics-Suns matchup included a notable moment. It was indicative of the growing confidence of Boston rookie forward Baylor Scheierman.
Scheierman, 24, was the Celtics‘ first-round pick in 2024. He has started to find his footing at the NBA level in the last month, and showcased some skill in a sequence that probably looked familiar to longtime Celtics fans.
After faking a shot, Scheierman drove toward the hoop before dusting off a classic move: He faked a behind-the-back pass before running past the defender. Scheierman then decided to actually pass, finding Neemias Queta (who eventually converted the layup).
It was a move that reminded fans of former Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, who popularized the fake behind-the-back pass during his impressive tenure in Boston.
After the game, Scheierman paid tribute to the now-retired Rondo, posting it on his social media:

Whether or not Scheierman gets actual playoff minutes remains to be seen, though his development has been a positive aspect of the latter part of the regular season.
The Celtics were already ahead by a significant margin at that point in the game (going on to win 132-102), so the next step for Scheierman will be to see if he can execute playmaking of that caliber in more pressure-filled circumstances.
Trivia: Rajon Rondo ranks fourth in all-time Celtics assists. Can you name the three players ahead of him?
(Answer at the bottom).
Hint: Their draft classes were 1950, 1962, and 1978.
Scores and schedules:
The Celtics defeated the Suns 132-102 on Wednesday. Kristaps Porzingis led Boston with 30 points.
Also from Wednesday: The Fleet lost to the Sceptres 4-2, and the Bruins were also defeated (falling 6-2 to the Ducks in Anaheim).
Today, the Red Sox begin the 2025 MLB regular season in Texas against the Rangers at 4:05 p.m.

Devers at DH: Some overview of the current Red Sox situation at third base, and the decision to put Rafael Devers at the designated hitter spot.
On this day: In 2001, Paul Pierce scored 41 points in 115-112 win over the Hawks, though primary coverage was of the troubled Red Sox. Boston, despite adding star slugger Manny Ramirez in the offseason, headed into the regular season with a plethora of injuries. The injuries would prove an issue, as the Red Sox finished the year 13.5 games out of a playoff spot.

Daily highlight: Nikola Jokić casually pulled off one of the assists of the season in a Nuggets win over the Bucks on Wednesday.
JOKIC DIME OF THE YEAR???! 😱😱
