Patriot reportedly trading a defensive lineman: While the Patriots might not have jumped into the offseason with a truly eye-catching trade — as had been speculated — the offseason is nonetheless already off to a notable start.
Along with appearing to add a pass-rusher in Harold Landry, New England is reportedly trading defensive tackle Davon Godchaux to the the Saints for a 2026 seventh-round pick. The trade was first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Godchaux, 30, has been with the Patriots since signing as a free agent in March, 2021. New England had signed him to a two-year contract extension in the summer of 2024, but the team’s continued struggles has clearly prompted some changing priorities in terms of the roster. The Patriots ranked in the lower half of the league in terms of stopping the run.
If the trade goes through — it can’t be processed until the new league year officially starts on March 12 — New England will have two sixth-round picks (due to the earlier Josh Uche trade) and now two seventh-rounders to accompany the regular slate of picks in 2026.
Scores and schedules:
Tonight, the Celtics face the Jazz at TD Garden at 7:30 p.m.
Tomorrow, the Bruins play the Panthers at home in what could bizarrely be Brad Marchand’s first game with his new Florida teammates. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.

Thoughts on Cavaliers-Celtics: The Cavaliers are the best team in the regular season, but are they a postseason threat to a Boston repeat?
On this day: In 2011, Kemba Walker helped UConn keep their miracle dream alive with a buzzer-beater in the older version of the Big East conference tournament to defeat Pitt. The Huskies won five games in five days to win the tournament, and a not-at-all-assured place in the ensuing NCAA tournament. Walker proceeded to lead Connecticut to victory in March Madness, cementing his legacy in Storrs for all time.
“Step-back. WALKER … CARDIAC KEMBA!”

Daily highlight: Sometimes putting all five defenders on one player doesn’t work. Kawhi Leonard managed to hit the game-winning shot despite the Kings’ complete starting roster trying to stop him.
