Here’s what it would reportedly cost the Patriots to trade for DK Metcalf

The price tag to acquire DK Metcalf: Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, one of the more talented players at his position in the NFL, reportedly let it be known on Wednesday that he is seeking a trade.

Metcalf, 27, would be a potential leading wideout for New England should the Patriots pull off a trade for him. Adding a top receiver for second-year quarterback Drake Maye would be a huge upgrade for a team that last had a 1,000-yard receiver in 2019 (when it was Julian Edelman).

The question after Metcalf’s reported trade request broke became straightforward: What would the price be to pry him away from Seattle? Metcalf is entering the final year of a three-year, $72 million deal, and is also seeking a new contract.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic was the first to provide specifics. On Thursday morning, she shared on social media that Seattle is seeking a first and third-round pick for Metcalf.

“Metcalf is also eyeing a new contract worth around $30M per year,” Russini continued.

As for interest, Russini explained that “multiple teams have inquired.” To this point, it obviously wouldn’t be as simple as New England agreeing to the terms and making the trade. Metcalf has also made it clear he want to go to a contender, which (in their current form) the Patriots are not. New England does have an enormous amount of cap space, and could dangle the possibility of a larger long-term contract.

As for draft capital, the Patriots currently hold the four overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft (set to begin on April 24).
