One Patriots assistant coach who’s staying put: Following the appointment of Mike Vrabel to be the Patriots‘ new head coach, there has been a flurry of assistant coaching changes on the team’s staff.

But while the news has mostly been coaches exiting (and being replaced with outside names), one member of Jerod Mayo’s 2024 staff will be hanging around. Ben McAdoo, the one-time Giants head coach, is reportedly “expected” to stay in New England according to ESPN reporter Mike Reiss.

McAdoo, 47, featured in 2024 as a senior offensive assistant, but as Reiss noted, “his responsibilities could change this year.”

Exactly what McAdoo did for the Patriots in the past season was unclear. According to running back Rhamondre Stevenson, the ex-Giants coach did “a little bit of everything.” This included working with quarterbacks, running practice scenarios for third downs, and even acting as the defensive coordinator for the scout team defense during practices.

McAdoo is set to be the third member of the old staff to remain in place with Vrabel. Special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer and assistant special teams coach Tom Quinn are the other two so far.

Trivia: During his time as head coach of the Giants, Ben McAdoo replaced Eli Manning as quarterback, ending Manning’s 210-consecutive start streak. What quarterback did McAdoo start instead of Manning?

(Answer at the bottom).

Hint: He was the 2022 NFL Comeback Player of the Year for an NFC West team.

Bailing yourself out: When Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov committed an unfortunate turnover in front of his own net, he rallied by making a sprawling save to prevent the goal. Carolina eventually won the game 3-2, with Kochetkov’s unorthodox save proving to be one of the differences.

On this day: In 1960, the Bruins stormed to a 5-0 lead before hanging on for a 6-5 win over the Canadiens. The Celtics also won, showing offensive firepower in a 146-128 victory over the Pistons.
