Andrews told former teammate Brian Hoyer on "The Quick Snap Podcast" that "there is some stuff I have to try to figure out here."

The latest on David Andrews: Among the many pieces of bad news for Patriots fans during the 30-13 loss against the 49ers in Sunday was an injury to team captain and starting center David Andrews.

Andrews, 32, suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter and did not return. Per multiple reports, the longtime Patriot is now likely heading for a surgery that could end his season.

Initially, a Wednesday morning report from Mark Daniels of MassLive noted that the offensive lineman faces a choice: Get surgery to fix his shoulder now and miss the rest of the 2024 season, or wait and try to play through it and risk missing time in 2025.

Shortly after the report from Daniels, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared another update.

“David Andrews is expected to have surgery to repair a significant shoulder injury and will likely be placed on season-ending Injured Reserve,” Rapoport said on social media.

“Andrews tried like crazy for a different outcome,” Rapoport added in a follow-up. “But this appears to be the only choice for the [New England] stalwart.”

Update: Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo later confirmed that Andrews will have surgery during his Wednesday morning press conference: “I know a lot of you guys are wondering about David Andrews. It’s already out there at this point. It’s going to require surgery, and he will probably go on [Injured Reserve] and be done for the season.”

Prior to the Wednesday reports, Andrews spoke about his injury on latest episode of “The Quick Snap Podcast” with former teammate Brian Hoyer, alluding to the decision with surgery.

“It’s frustrating being hurt. As a player, sometimes you have to make decisions if you being out there is the best thing for the team, and if you can perform,” said Andrews.

Citing a Bill Belichick principal, Andrews said he doesn’t want to overstate his current position before he has more of an idea of its severity and impact on his potential return to the field.

“There is some stuff I have to try to figure out here, and see what I can do to be the best player I can be on Sunday,” he told Hoyer. “That’s the big thing. Anybody can go out there and play. But it’s trying to be effective and I think that’s the human aspect of it more than the football player — you want to be the best you can be and making sure you can try to do that.”

The Patriots, already thin on the offensive line heading into the season, struggled on Sunday without Andrews’s leadership and ability. New England allowed six sacks in the defeat in San Francisco, and has yielded 17 so far during the season (second most in the NFL behind the Browns).

“I’m just trying to figure all that stuff out,” Andrews concluded. “It’s super frustrating, man.”
