Boston College football keeping perspective: It was a dream start for the Bill O’Brien era of Boston College football on Monday as the Eagles recorded a 28-13 upset of No. 10 ranked Florida State in Tallahassee.

The road win was undeniably impressive, led by a dominant defense and quarterback Thomas Castellanos (who threw for two touchdowns and added another on the ground).

Yet after the game, Castellanos — a team captain in his second season in Chestnut Hill after transferring from UCF — kept things in perspective. Asked about how his schedule looks operating on a short week (Boston College will face Duquesne at home on Saturday), Castellanos had a simple reply.

“Well, I go to Boston College, so we’ve got class tomorrow,” Castellanos quipped.

“Treatment is going to be available. Massages and stuff like that, and just recovering, getting in the weight room with coach [Craig Fitzgerald] and the staff.

“We have a really good treatment and training staff, and weight room staff,” Castellanos explained. “We do a lot of good recovery for our body, so I’ll be fine. But I’ve got to go to class tomorrow.”

Castellanos is a crucial component of Boston College’s hopes for a successful season under O’Brien in 2024. In his first season with the Eagles in 2023, the junior from Georgia became the first player in school history to throw for at least 2,000 yards and rush for at least 1,000 in the same season.

On this day: In 1995, the Patriots got a 17-14 season-opening win over Bill Belichick’s Browns, and the Red Sox also notched a victory (8-1 over the Angels) thanks to an excellent performance from Tim Wakefield, who allowed just one run over eight innings.

Daily highlight: One of the major turning points in Boston College’s season-opening upset of Florida State was Max Tucker’s fourth down interception.
