Red Sox updated prospect rankings: With the recent promotion of top Red Sox prospects Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, and Kyle Teel to the team’s Triple-A affiliate in Worcester, there’s an increased focus on the team’s minor league player development.

And as fans turn their attention to check on Boston’s potential stars of tomorrow, they might notice how favorably the Red Sox system compares against many other teams in the league. MLB.com recently re-ranked the league’s top 100 prospects in 2024, and listed five Red Sox hopefuls.

Here are the top-ranked Red Sox prospects:

  • No. 5: Marcelo Mayer
  • No. 14: Roman Anthony
  • No. 27: Kyle Teel
  • No. 59: Braden Montgomery
  • No. 80: Kristian Campbell

Aside from the top trio of Anthony, Mayer, and Teel, Boston has newly-drafted outfielder Braden Montgomery included at No. 59. Montgomery, 21, was picked 12th overall by the Red Sox in the 2024 draft, and was labeled by MLB reporter Keith Law of The Athletic as a possible “steal of the draft.”

Campbell, 22, represents the biggest jump in the team’s prospect rankings in 2024. Prior to the season, he was listed as the 30th ranked Red Sox prospect. Now, Campbell is up to the No. 5 spot and 80th among all MLB prospects.

A fourth-round pick out of Georgia Tech in 2023, Campbell has been crushing the baseball since being promoted to Double-A Portland earlier in the season. Through 51 games with Portland, Campbell is batting .374 with a .481 OBP, and a 1.070 OPS.

While the Red Sox continue to fight for a potential wild card spot, the future appears to be bright.

The current Boston roster already features several recent prospects who have broken through at the Major League level, including Wilyer Abreu, Jarren Duran, David Hamilton, Tanner Houck, and Ceddanne Rafaela (not to mention the already well-established presence of Rafael Devers).
